New MacBook Pro screen too shiny!

With the release of the new Macbook Pro, I am SOOO close to wanting one. But — and it’s a big but — Apple seems to have made a screen with exceptional color and contrast along with serious daytime usability issues. I’ve seen ‘em in the stores. The reviews are right. The thing is more reflective than my bathroom mirror.

Benek says it all quite well on his letter to Steve Jobs:

For the love of god and everything that’s good and holy in this world why the hell did you make all of the new MBP screens ultra-glossy!?

It’s a shame to see such and all around awesome product be ruined by a screen that in almost all daytime settings is unusable. Some designers actually work during the day!

There are certainly some who disagree, but I think many current users and MacBook dreamers alike are wanting to see an already great product improved with user feedback in mind. Sure the glossy screens produce great colors and contrast, but being able use one in a less than pitch-black room is clearly more important.

If Apple takes this kind of criticism to heart and updates the screen options it would do LOT to please many users. No one wants to have to buy some matte finish sticker thing and stick it to their screen. If you are paying a premium for something like this (which you certainly are with Apple), then it should have an excellent screen out of the box. Make the fix (offer a matte option), and I’m one more new customer to add to the list!
